Los Lobos in Clayton

We were at the Clayton Opera House last night. The COH is in full swing with an amazing line up of events organized by the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund. Last night: Los Lobos, yes, Los Lobos. They performed to a sold out crowd. The COH is one of those wonderfully intimate venues, beautifully refurbished in recent years through community effort. It’s a gem. Get over to Clayton and check out the COH. Amy Flack, the Executive Director, and the Board, led by Pete Colello, have put together a fabulous line up of performances. Los Lobos were fabulous. Wild, musical, LOUD, rockin’, swingin’, thumpin’, surprising, exciting, and as tuned into the crowd as the crowd was tuned into them.

Do check out their new cd, Tin Can Trust. They ended the show (before the encore) with a fabulous medley of La Bamba/True Love. Couldn’t find any good recent versions on YouTube, but did stumble on this wonderful clip from the 1980s movie, La Bamba, about Richie Valens, which featured–and catapulted to greater fame–the young East L.A. group, Los Lobos.

The gang from NCPR went backstage after the show…

Cesar Rosas, vocalist/guitarist/mandolist, talks with David Sommerstein

Steven Sauter with David Hidalgo, vocalist/guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.

Cesar Rosas hams it up with Jake Rotundo, Ellen's son.

Tell us about live music or performances you’ve enjoyed this summer. Where? What? Who? When? Or, tell us about something special coming up.

So glad you all got to join us for Los Lobos on Wednesday! We are still buzzing from the fun we had.

I was really excited to have seen a great production of ANNIE at SUNY Potsdam in July, which was produced by our friends at Community Performance Series and featured some really wonderful local actors. Another favorite performance event of the summer was the North American Pipe Band Championships during the Glengarry Highland Games. When 1357 pipers and drummers took the field for the Massed Bands segment it was a sight and sound to behold!

We were there for Los Lobos too! Fantastic show!! Thanks Amy! And thanks for the kind words about “Annie” Going to McDuffs in Potsdam tonight and Morristown tomorrow night for Conrad Story Blues Band. We’ve also seen some great shows at the Norwood Village Green concert series… Downchild and Tas Cru. Also the Blues Festival in Massena on the Fourth of July was great! We are fortunate to have the quality of entertainment we do here in the North Country.
