Savory and savvy

NY Times food columnist Mark Bittman (The Minimalist) announced last week that he plans to retire that column in order to do a different kind of column that will focus on food policy. Check out the Utne article and links here.

Here’s a pretty serious conversation on a small piece of food policy: taxing soft drinks. This is from a Yale University forum in 2010.

    If you want to tax something because you want money, go for it.
    If you say you want to tax something because you want people to lead a healthier life, absolutely no!
