Steve Inskeep on NPR bias

This opinion piece from Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep in today’s Wall Street Journal. It’s worth a read. Of course, Steve has a stake in upholding the reputation of NPR and public radio–as do I! But, I think he gets at the heart of what matters to those of us working the job of public media day in and day out: we care about the work, and we want to do it as well as we possibly can. For you. It doesn’t work if it doesn’t work for you.

By the way, program director Jackie Sauter and I have been talking about bringing the program On the Media into our regular schedule. From time to time we’ve aired special broadcasts from the series, but it is so good, we’re hoping to find time for it on our weekend broadcast schedule.

On this point of bias/no bias at NPR, here’s a link to On the Media’s recent series of conversations on the topic. Again, well worth a read (or listen).

    Ellen/Jackie:

I’ve listened to a number of episodes of On The Media on other NPR stations (via live-streaming) and I think it is an excellent program. I, for one, would support NCPR adding it to their regular schedule.

    Thanks.

On the Media would be a great addition to NCPR!

Thanks for giving us the opportunity for reading that- it was good.

I, too, would be happy to have On The Media on NCPR. I listen to it on my station in NY’s Southern Tier and enjoy it. It seems to fit well with NCPR.
