Some great summer book lists
I guess everyone does a summer reading list–including NCPR. Here are some of the lists you may want to check out as summer winds down and your stash of books or recommended titles is running low–even if you have to carry some of these titles over to your fall reading list.
The World – As you might expect, a mix of titles from a line up of international writers.
Washington Week - Gwen Ifill and her colleagues come up with political reading, both fiction and non-fiction–or is all political writing fiction…
NPR Risky Reads – In case you’ve missed this occasional series on the NPR news magazine programs, I recommend this list. When I was a young teenager, I read every forbidden or not-for-young-readers book I could get my hands on. Nothing on this list should worry parents, but all of the titles are challenging for YA readers, particularly in terms of subject matter.
If you’re a detective and mystery reader, here’s a link to a list of titles by some of the all-time best writers in those genres. Offered in no particular order, the list does seem to include most of the big names, some of which you may have missed.
If you’ve come across a reading list that’s turned out to be full of solid recommendations, please share it with all of us in a comment. Thanks.

Without books, history is silent, literature is dumb, science is crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. –Barbara Tuchman
