What if, George Pataki?

September 6th, 2010 by Brian Mann

As part of its top-ten What-ifs, Politico also asks why no A-list Republicans (or A-list Democrats, for that matter) bothered to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

In a year that has entrenched incumbents fighting for their lives, with Democratic states like California and Illinois turning into genuine battlefields, the fact that appointed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is coasting to reelection is an astounding anomaly.

There ARE no A-list Republicans in New York State, and that's why there were none to challenge Gillibrand.

All of them are cheesy mediciocrities, including Pataki himself, and his pal Giuliani.

As for the actual challengers — Moe, Larry and Curly — they've done everything but supply their own banana peel.

George Pataki always reminded me of what Ed Sullivan used to say about his long time TV persona, "They can't get tired of me, I don't do anything."

Nonetheless, Pataki was elected 3 times as governor and you have to assume he would have been a strong canddidate against Gillibrand and I have to assume, again, that his cushy job in NYC is more comfortable to him than going to DC in the Senate.
