Morning Read: Franklin County privatizes its nursing home

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting that Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone will take over management and operations of the Franklin County nursing home.

The hospital will merge the nursing home it now operates with the Franklin County facility.

[State Senator Betty] Little applauded everyone who has been working on the plan, saying that anyone can have an idea, but not everyone would do the actual work to follow through on it.

All six counties in Little’s district are having trouble paying for their nursing homes, she said.

“This is a model,” Little said. “This is what a lot of counties are looking for.”

Essex County is also debating the future of its nursing home in Elizabethtown, which currently operates at a $2 million deficit.
