Morning Read: Obama returns to Upstate New York

Barack Obama has been a frequent flyer to upstate New York over the last couple of years.  His last trip was a visit to Buffalo in May of last year.  He also visited Troy.

According to the White House, this trip is a fresh to emphasize efforts to grow jobs.  This from the Associated Press.

The administration didn’t release details about Tuesday’s trip to Schenectady, 10 miles west of Albany. The city of about 60,000 was the original headquarters for GE, which employed more than 40,000 people at its peak during World War II. There are only about 3,000 GE workers left in the city.

Some recent news — the Laurentian Deal in Plattsburgh and Alcoa’s decision to reopen some of its operations in Massena — suggest that the upstate economy might be fluttering back to life.

What do you think?  Better times on the way?
