Morning Read: House GOP wants cuts for Planned Parenthood

The Plattsburgh Press Republican is reporting that Planned Parenthood services used by roughly 14,000 women last year in the North Country could be scaled back if conservatives in the House have their way.

Kathie Wunderlich, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York, said North Country clinics may not survive without federal funding.

She said North Country women and others in rural areas face worse obstacles to receiving health care than women elsewhere in the country.

“There is a lack of primary health-care providers,” Wunderlich said. “A huge number of patients consider us their primary care provider — their only care provider, actually.”

Planned Parenthood has been a target for conservatives for years, because one of the services the organization provides is legal, safe abortions.

Meanwhile, the Glens Falls Post-Star is reporting that the liberal group MoveOn.org plans a protest outside the Saratoga office of freshman Rep. Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook).

They will protest the House Republicans’ budget plan, the political advocacy group announced.

you haven’t looked at any aborted fetuses lately have you? then tell me how you can say they aren’t human. yeah, they are humans torn apart limb by limb, cut up, mashed up, brains sucked out, crushed. abortion is evil personafied!

  3. Mervel says:

I agree it is not a fully formed human; it is a human life form, it depends on when you want to call something human? I would rather error conservatively on that point. If a human life form has a beating heart and feels pain would that be acceptable? I don’t think the question has an answer and thus I would stick with the starting point of all human life, conception.

The soul is a spiritual concept, many people do not believe it even exists so it should not be part of an public discussion about this issue.

  4. Mervel says:

    Hi Phahn,

I would disagree with the that so some extent but understand your point. A human fetus is a human life form at a particular stage of development. It is not a random cell, but a cell dividing reproducing human life form which is developing and growing. It is just one stage of human development from fetus to infant to toddler to child to adolescent etc.

The soul is a spiritual belief which I adhere to but I also understand that many Americans don’t believe and really in this sort of debate would not be relevant.

I don’t disagree that this is a tough issue.

    Bret,
The Lila Rose pimp stuff is fraudulent, just like the O’Keefe Acorn stuff. You could look it up.

  6. phahn50 says:

Mervel – The science is tougher than that. The sperm and egg are both alive before they fuse. Most of the cells in the early embryogenesis stages have no future – they undergo apoptosis and disappear. The fetus becomes viable outside the body of the mother considerably later (months and months later although they are pushing that back). Picking a point to call the beginning of life is pretty arbitrary.

  7. Pete Klein says:

You believe or don’t believe an embryo or fetus is a human being.
This is all about belief and opinion.
Neither side can win the argument.
Ultrasound doesn’t prove anything. You believe or you don’t.

  8. Bret4207 says:

    Fraudulent is what respect OA?

  9. oa says:

Planned Parenthood had reported the Lila Rose Stasi officers fake criminal activity to the FBI as soon as her stable of out-of-work actors had infiltrated their offices. You could look it up.
And I’m assuming you know about the criminal O’Keefe’s selective and deceptive editing of the Acorn videos. I know it’s okay, though, because it drives liberals crazy, which is all that matters and is a positive approach to problem-solving and governance.
    Soros-is-evil response reference coming in 10… 9…. 8….

  10. Bret4207 says:

The information was given in these cases though. There have been more than the one case too. Acorn? Huh, so when your side does a hatchet job it’s okay, but when Acorn gets caught it’s wrong? Editing on the right and left accomplishes the same thing.

  11. Chris LaRose says:

Pete Klein – Abortion IS killing a baby, otherwise the woman is NOT pregnant; miscariages are natural, not procured or induced abortions
    (killings).

Bill G.& Myvoice – The reason unplanned pregnancies and abortions ARE high IS because of PP’s agenda of pushing sex-sex-sex onto our children through
sex ed in schools & birth control (which doesn’t work), which then causes abortions as the final solution. To discourage abortions they must be made a felony and offenders must be prosecuted. Abortion is deliberate murder!

Marcus – Abortions account for 90%+ of PP’s revenue, the other services feed their abortion desire.

Mervel – PP is the nation’s largest abortion provider – they must be stopped! To say that ” some other provider would jump in,” so why bother, is like saying we should not try to stop a serial killer because murders will always happen.

phahn – PP makes its $ doing abortions and 0 on its other services. They have actually directed their chapters to increase their abortion #s. The work of PP
(like their founder Margaret Sanger) is evil – they are under the direct control of Satah himself, who desires sex outside of marriage, rampant promiscuity and ultimately the destoyed souls from abortion. The people involved with PP are misguided and in the dark of what they are doing – at the moment of conception a new human life (soul) is created and begins to grow inside her mother’s body as ordained by God. As far as women being hurt by abortion, have you heard of the ” Silent No More Awareness ” organization? Check out their website at: http://www.silentnomoreawareness.org/ and you’ll see the devestation done by abortion on men and women is truly profound! The loss of a child to a parent is an unforgettable emotional scar.

  12. oa says:

Bret, it wasn’t editing. It was outright lying. But it’s not liberal lying, so it’s OK with you. And where, by the way, did I defend lying on “my side.” Though I do pledge undying allegiance to the Dark Lord Soros!

  13. Bret4207 says:

Are we talking about the same event? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/feb/1/video-shows-planned-parenthood-manager-aiding-pimp/
The only defense I’ve found while cruising through places like Media Matters is that PP sent a letter (after the fact) to an AG altering him in one case to the possibilities of a sex ring. Wow, that’s brave, and so up front. This isn’t the first time PP has gotten caught with it’s collective pants down. While I have no issue whatsoever with family planning and Planned Parenthood as a supplier of birth control services, I do have a problem with people doing something wrong and then trying to blame someone else for it. If there is a policy that says “give them the info even if the girls are underage or involved in illegal activity” then that needs to change. It’s a simple as that.

As far as public money going to PP, one way or another it’s funding abortion and gov’t keeps saying it’s not. It may be legal, but so is suicide. Doesn’t make it the best choice or one that sits well with a lot of the taxpaying public.

  14. oa says:

We’ll have to agree to disagree, and if you want, I’ll concede that you won this round over me and Dark Lord.
I never made an argument about public money going to PP, but since you brought it up… You may not have a problem with PP’s other missions, but the PP attack (that sounds really weird, by the way) is also about eliminating contraception and scolding women who have sex for pleasure, and some conservatives actually admit it: http://townhall.com/columnists/kathrynlopez/2011/02/26/contraception_is_not_the_solution/page/full/

But the Lila Rose footage was doctored, just like the O’Keefe stuff, and nobody has denied, to my knowledge, that PP did in fact alert federal authorities. That’s one reason this hoax got no traction compared with the Acorn one. People are growing wise to it:
