North Country has NY’s highest, lowest unemployment

New labor statistics are out this morning from NY’s Labor Department and our region has the distinction of offering the best of times and the worst of times.

St. Lawrence County has the second highest unemployment rate in the state at 10.5%.  Hamilton County, meanwhile, has the lowest unemployment at 4.9%.

Other big take-aways:  Saratoga is faring well at 6.1%.  But Clinton County is struggling at 9.6%.

    The rate in St. Lawrence County should not be a surprise to anyone.

    It’s been between 8-10% for the past 10 years.

    I thought the Park was destroying Hamilton county?

    The number of unemployed is completely controlledby how the politicians are currently defining the term “unemployed”.

    Hamilton County has low unemployment in the summer because of tourism.

    4.9% is actually high for Hamilton County during the summer months. Historically it has been as low as 2%. Check it in February/March when 14 – 16% is the norm.

    Hamilton County needs snowmobilers who come up for more than just a day or two.
