Update: Doug Hoffman considering third House bid in 2012

UPDATE:  The Glens Falls Post Star is reporting that there’s also talk of Doug Hoffman running in the Assembly race for the seat being vacated by Willsboro Republican Teresa Sayward.

Moriah Republican Chairman Brett Thompson on Sunday endorsed Hoffman for state Assembly, even though Hoffman has not yet publicly stated his interest in running.

“The only one who would market the Adirondacks the best, in my opinion, would be Doug Hoffman,” said Thompson…

NPR reported this morning that Lake Placid accountant Doug Hoffman may throw his hat in the ring one more time, following two unsuccessful runs for congress.

The national Conservative favorite told NPR that he’ll make his decision after redistricting lines are issued around March 12th.

“At this point, I’m right on the edge of two districts, and I can go either way,” says Doug Hoffman, an accountant from Lake Placid in the Adirondacks.

Hoffman ran for Congress in 2010 with Tea Party support, and almost won. Hoffman is contemplating another run this year, but he doesn’t know which district he lives in.

“So until that question is answered, I can’t decide what race I’m getting into,” he says. “It’s taking away the average person’s ability to get into a campaign and raise funds.”

By most estimates, a Hoffman run would be a big headache for Republican Matt Doheny from Watertown, and a political boon for Rep. Bill Owens, the Plattsburgh Democrat.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been hearing rumblings about this for weeks, suggestions that Hoffman is feeling out support and potential financial backing among Conservative Party leaders.

But Doheny has moved aggressively to lock down Conservative and Tea Party support this year and Hoffman’s maneuvering room might be considerably more constrained.

    GO FOR IT DOUG!
YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME, AND I, FOR ONE, WILL SUPPORT YOU ALL THE WAY!

    In the primary, that is.

  2. Rick says:

Do it Doug! This race needs some comic relief.

    how about the highway

Doug Hoffman has a right to run and expose Matt Doheny and the Republican Chairs for the back stabbers they still are and proved to be in 2012; and he could still win it after all this time. People aren’t sold on a ‘Wall Street’ guy like challanger Matt Doheny to solve the districts problems. Doug can point to having committed himself to building a better NNY his whole life and not running away to easy money on Wall Street like Matt did during his Manhattan career downstate. Now if guys like Barrie over at Tea Party headquarters can just let the people decide it will be an intersting race.

Doug Hoffman should seek the Republican nomination. If he does not achieve that, he should let it go.

That will make it obvious once-and-for-all if the GOP is picking a viable candidate or not.

And frankly, there’s not that much difference between Owens and Doheny, anyway, with the one exception of party affiliation.

  6. Peter Hahn says:

well JDM – if you really think there’s not much difference – I hope you vote for Owens on election day if Hoffman doesn’t make it.

  7. PNElba says:

Run Doug, Run! Show those RINO’s that you can’t be conservative enough in the Adirondacks.

  8. Brian says:

Hopefully he run for Congress against Bill Owens (outside of my district) rather than for Assembly to replace Teresa Sayward (in my district). Hoffman has shown no ability or interest in deepening his knowledge of issues beyond the most superficial Tea Party slogans. We don’t need any more empty suits nor any more willful ignorance in Albany or DC. Passion is no excuse for not informing yourself, if you’re seeking public office.

  9. dbw says:

Maybe he will run in the 20th this time, and give it a rest in the 23rd. As for the Owens-Doheny matchup, there is a big difference in the quality of their character. Mr. Doheny’s two BWIs within two weeks shows a lack of judgment and was just plan dumb. Everyone’ entitled to their mistakes, but that doesn’t mean they should be entrusted with a public office.

  10. JDM says:

Peter Hahn: No, I will hold my nose, and vote GOP.

    Go Doug!

  11. Peter Hahn says:

JDM – maybe you could just stay home? :)

  12. knuckleheadedliberal says:

Brian, do you know something about how the district lines will be drawn?
