Developing: Veteran Adirondack town supervisor Joyce Morency passes
The Plattsburgh Press-Republican is adding key details to the notice of Joyce Morency’s passing. Lohr McKinstry reports that the St. Armand town supervisor “had been fighting cancer for several years.”
Morency served since 1982, according to the P-R:
She was the first female supervisor on the Essex County Board of Supervisors, as well as the first female chair of the Board of Supervisors, heading the board from 1994 to 1995.

SARANAC LAKE–December 3-Today, May Clyde Rabideau issued this statement upon the passing of St. Armand Town Supervisor Joyce Morency:
“On behalf of the Saranac Lake community, I extend sincere condolences and sorrow to the family of Joyce Morency at this time of her passing.
Joyce was one of the most dedicated local public officials I ever met as countless times I would stop in at her town hall and she would be the first person to greet me through her office door. She was totally dedicated to her township and its residents and would spend whatever amount of time it took to solve any problem at hand spending tremendously more hours in the Town Hall than any two other Town Supervisors put together.
Joyce was a fearless and unrelenting advocate of St. Armand and its residents and will be dearly missed by all.”

Sad. She was the quintessential Adirondack lady.
Not sure where to post this but… in the last year or so, several volunteer squads in the southern Adirondacks have disbanded: Wevertown VFD, Thurman EMS and yesterday, the North Warren EMS in Chestertown. Troubling trend but might be interesting fodder for a blog.
Brian, this has been on the wall. All this crazy talk that these areas are a-okay based on the census figures is crazy. They are in serious trouble.
