At long last, $10 million construction project in the Canton Village is finished, as the NYSDOT announced today. The project spanned about a mile of Route 11, and was in progress for two years. Officials are holding a public gathering at 5:30 PM this evening at 60 Main Street to celebrate the project’s completion. Refreshments will be served.

Yesterday was the two-year anniversary of the murder of Garrett Phillips, who was a 12-year-old Potsdam boy. On Thursday night, family and community members remembered Garrett by releasing 400 blue and orange balloons at Potsdam Central School. To the family’s dismay, police still haven’t arrested a suspect.

In Washington County, residents have been reporting calls from people posing as Microsoft employees, asking for personal information. State Police are investigating the matter, and warning people not to fall for the scam.

Surveyors in Lake George have discovered arrowheads and a spear that could be up to 8,000 years old. Archaeologists uncovered the ancient weapons near the Million Dollar Beach parking lot. The plans to renovate the lot are temporarily on hold.
