Two dairy farms, both in northern New York, both succeeding economically. But they have very different definitions of what "sustainable" means in the context of farming.

Today, The Dirt's Julie Grant compared on the radio the 1,500 head conventional Stauffer dairy with the 230 head organic Zufall dairy.

  1. Raising cows on grass IS harvesting solar energy. It doesn't get more sustainable than that. That the cows are happier is a bonus.
    I would imagine that the neighbors are happier too.
