Don't be surprised to see red-and-black-plaid clad people streaming out of a red-and-black-plaid bus today in midtown Manhattan. The 1,200 farmer Cabot Creamery Cooperative, which includes many farmers in northern New York, is making a full-court press in New York City today.
It's a savvy marketing campaign called the Gratitude Tour, to encourage one of the world's biggest consumer markets to buy more Cabot cheese. There's a video clip, a twitter hashtag – #cabotfarmers – and an Instagram photo contest.
A fun idea, and a great example of how farmers need to be competent and creative marketers and distributors of their products these days. Just farming it isn't enough.
And I must say, it's one of my favorite flavor combos – apples and sharp cheddar.
