David Sommerstein is a city boy from Buffalo, NY.  He has covered food and agriculture in northern New York for NCPR since 2000.  He’s covered everything from the ongoing struggles of the region’s dairy farmers, to a shortage of slaughterhouses to process local meat, to a neighborhood canning swap.  He particularly proud of his A Year on the Farm series  and his investigations into the lives of undocumented Latino workers on dairy farms, for which he won a national Edward R. Murrow award.  He was a fellow at the Knight Science Journalism’s “Food Boot Camp” at MIT.

David also likes to cook local foods.  Beets and cherries are his favorite produce.
