Just before rush hour (click image to enlarge):
So far on this trip, Missouri has the cheapest gas – $2.59/gallon. And the worst roads.
There is a likely corollary, because most states use at least part of the gas tax on pavement.
Prices rise as I approach Kansas City.
If you ever have the chance in KC, get a meal at Eden Alley. The sweet potato burrito is a sublime work of genius – and the best cure for road food since Katzinger’s Deli in Columbus.
If you ever plan to motor west, get hip to this timely tip: Drive across Kansas at night. (Nebraska, too, for that matter.) During the day, it’s hard to convince yourself that you’re actually moving. The scenery doesn’t really change and you can start to feel like a hamster on a wheel.
Unless, of course, you take Route 66. But that’s another story.
Wow! You guys are getting pretty high…first towers, now arches. I’m getting a stiff neck from all this looking up…
Could this guy be any funnier?
These posts are the best travel guides for a road warrior.
More!
Thanks, dad.
