NPR is sponsoring a nationwide public poll to pick the best music of 2010…well, the best of contemporary genres. Add your opinion here.
A couple of weeks ago, NPR polled employees at stations around the country. In the blues and roots category, I voted for Cindy Lauper’s MEMPHIS BLUES (for which she has since been nominated for a Grammy). I’m not lobbying here (no vested interest in who wins the NPR poll), but excited to share a connection to this album with NCPR audiences–and inspire you to think about music released in the past year that appeals to you. Here’s Cindy talking about what inspired her to make the album (plus ya gotta love her accent…it sounds sooo familiar to me):
All In is a place for everyone who works at NCPR to share behind the scenes activity, and surprising, curious, lovely or distinctly local tidbits from our travels around the region. We’ll post the best of what we find online, too. From time to time, you may hear from others—if you’d like to write an entry, send it to [email protected]. What makes this place what it is? How do we connect to each other and the world? That’s what ALL IN is all about.
Not interested in anything out of Memphis, Nashville or New Orleans.
My current favorite is The Heavy. Especially like How You Like Me Now.
