Not sure what the etymology of this is but it means, roughly, dressing up or acting as if one is wealthy and important…perhaps more so than one really is. This week we’re interviewing candidates to host All Before Five, a reporting and on air position formerly held by Jonathan Brown. As candidates visit us, we want to look and sound our best…putting on the dog a bit, but not too much because whoever we hire will be relocating to the north country which, no matter how many fancy clothes you put on, is still cold and snowy in January.
Just for fun, here is a Tom Waits song called “Putting on the Dog” which is definitely not about hiring a new NCPR reporter.

About All In
All In is a place for everyone who works at NCPR to share behind the scenes activity, and surprising, curious, lovely or distinctly local tidbits from our travels around the region. We’ll post the best of what we find online, too. From time to time, you may hear from others—if you’d like to write an entry, send it to [email protected]. What makes this place what it is? How do we connect to each other and the world? That’s what ALL IN is all about.
OK, I’ll say it…. While I was an avid listener to ‘All Before Five’, I’m really enjoying that little bit of extra music in the afternoon.
