When I was growing up my mother used to say, “We can put man on the moon but we can’t cure the common cold.” We put our first man on the moon 40 years ago but we’re no closer to a cure for the cold. Here’s what we know (the cold, you will notice, is the same regardless of which continent you live on):
About a week or so ago, I used this blog for a couple of entries about “the commons.” Seems to me I left off another we hold in common: cold germs. Someone out there has shared their cold germs with me. I’m headed home. I don’t think anyone here at the station is interested in this particular part of the commons.
By the way, I know lots of people who think they have “the cure” for the cold–like the untold number of cures for the hangover. I’m skeptical of both, but do feel free to share your cures here. For me, it’s liquids, bed rest if possible, and some Tylenol.
All In is a place for everyone who works at NCPR to share behind the scenes activity, and surprising, curious, lovely or distinctly local tidbits from our travels around the region. We’ll post the best of what we find online, too. From time to time, you may hear from others—if you’d like to write an entry, send it to [email protected]. What makes this place what it is? How do we connect to each other and the world? That’s what ALL IN is all about.
Chicken soup. Bring back the real Vicks. Mustard plaster for chest colds.
Can’t sleep? Drink some brandy or whiskey. And last but not least, take two aspirin but don’t call me in the morning.

Garlic is good too. It keeps people away so they don’t catch your cold.
