3000 and counting

Okay, I know journalists are supposed to be neutral, not take sides, be fair to all. So, I must disclose this: I am a Yankees fan. Full on for the Bronx Bombers. And, unless you live in a sports-free vacuum, you know that Derek Jeter had his 3,000th hit on Saturday, joining a group of less than 30 players to ever achieve this. NCPR was represented at Yankee Stadium that day:

At the same time Scotty was having his picture taken (just before Jeter hit his 3000th), my son Jake and I were in Manhattan in a sports bar watching #2 hit the home run. Our tickets were for the next day (okay, secretly we were hoping Jeter had NO hits on Saturday so we’d be likely to see the 3K). We had a great day on Sunday (my first trip to the new Yankee stadium):

Meanwhile, the BIG  north country connection to last weekend’s Yankee’s action was Christian Lopez, a St. Lawrence University alum, who caught the ball when Jeter had his 3000th hit. This is a big deal. Here’s the latest on the story. Good for you, Christian!
