Listening Post: A little renovation
Excuse me if I seem a little out of breath. I’ve been smashing things on the website, trying to get a new site design ready for company to come over. In fact, I haven’t broken so much stuff at one time since a housing rehab group stationed me next to a 55-gallon drum with a claw hammer and had me break surplus windows all day. That, oddly, was much more relaxing than this. They weren’t my windows.
The look at NCPR has been getting stuffy and crowded, like a Victorian parlor with too much furniture and lots of figurines and fussy little doilies. We’re going for more of a Scandinavian Modern look–lighter, simpler, and with enough room to swing the cat. And we’ve put a lot of work in upping our game with photos and graphics. The new design will showcase that work better.
We’re hoping to roll out the whole ball of wax by Monday. What could possibly go wrong? I’ve been finding out all day. So expect a little chaos, a little inconsistency–zen garden on one page, briar patch on the next, holes containing nothing but the great white void. Worst case–the site will look exactly the same because we had to kick the can down the road and get the heavy equipment back in. To quote Radio Bob, “Don’t worry. Everything is going to be all right… soon.”

Dale, glad you are working to make things simpler for some of us.
This morning my internet NCPR can’t cutting out.
Chuck
Liking it so far… thanks.
Can you make the category headings bigger? I mean the banners for each section: ‘NCPR regional news’, ‘NPR news’, etc. They seem very small right now. If they were larger and bolder, it would make the new divisions clearer.
(Isn’t it helpful when everyone’s a critic?)
Like the new look!
Excellent work –very user-friendly! Thanks.
Dale -it looks good. However I tried the listen live – in your player – iTunes on my Mac with chrome and all I got was a text page with a couple lines of what may be “code”.
Beautiful new design. Easy to navigate, attractive to look at. Nice job.
