A few weeks ago, reporter Zach Hirsch reported on and then visited Wanakena and talked to people about the impact of the loss of the iconic footbridge, a loss caused by ice and severe winter weather.
Back in 2007, Joel Hurd helped produce a portrait of the Wanakena bridge for Very Special Places, a series we collaborated on with TAUNY.
Last week, our good friend Kristin Rehder, who has owned a summer home in Wanakena for years, sent me the video below. Her tribute to the bridge as a point of community pride, connection, and beauty. She has graciously allowed me to share it with you below.
