At last: weekends that say summer!
Here comes Victoria Day weekend in Canada. In the U.S. Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner.
Of course, strictly speaking, the summer solstice doesn’t happen until June 21. But psychologically, at least, those holidays mark a mental shift in seasons. Yes, get out the BBQ, slip on the flip flops and (maybe?) start transplanting in the garden. How welcome that all feels after our winter of winters.
CBC just ran a 10 question quiz about Victoria Day. I only got six right, but some of the questions were about pop culture I wouldn’t have a prayer of knowing. (I’m talking about you, number 6.)
In Ottawa, there’s still time to check out the Canadian Tulip Festival through May 19. There will be festival-sponsored fireworks from 9:30-10:00 pm. The best viewing should be near Dow’s Lake.
Like a lot of others, I’ll probably be gardening this weekend. What seasonal activity are you looking forward to?
