Hot summer pick

Cyndi Lauper. Yes, Cyndi Lauper. Her new album, MEMPHIS BLUES on the Mercer Street label, features the likes of Charlie Musselwhite and Allen Toussaint.  Her voice may not be what we’re used to in a blues singer, but she has all the heart and soul of the best of the belters. Plus, the musicianship is as good as it gets. I love this album. Here’s a clip of a live performance of two of the songs, with Cyndi backed by a pared down duo including Musselwhite.

While I was looking for the sample clip, I also found this one from 26 (!) years ago…it’s still got humor and heart…
