We heard our first peepers Friday night, signaling (loudly) that the reproductive cycle has begun again in the wetlands and vernal pools. We will soon watch the countryside green-up.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a thing I&#8217;ve never seen before, and I&#8217;m curious. Maybe some biologist out there can help. When I got out of my car this morning in the semi-dark , I smelled that familiar earthworm smell. They&#8217;re out, I thought. And sure enough, were they ever! Earthworms\u00a0 (not the big &#8220;night crawlers&#8221;) were everywhere. In the parking lot, crossing our entryway sidewalk as usual. Creepily, they had clustered on our doorstep, and had started crawling up the glass and the surround. A few had insinuated themselves under the edge of the door. Attack of the worms!<\/p>\n<p>Never seen them do that before. Were they attracted to the light?
