{"id":11962,"date":"2014-09-11T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T13:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/?p=11962"},"modified":"2014-09-11T09:00:50","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T13:00:50","slug":"ottawa-folk-festival-day-1-rain-does-little-to-dampen-spirits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/2014\/09\/11\/ottawa-folk-festival-day-1-rain-does-little-to-dampen-spirits\/","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa Folk Festival Day 1: Rain does little to dampen spirits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The highly anticipated 2014 edition of the Ottawa Folk Festival kicked off this evening at Hog&#8217;s Back Park with another stellar line-up featuring a variety of local and international music genres spread over the five-day celebration of music, dance, visual arts and community.<\/p>\n<p>First up was an alt-rock outfit called We Are Monroe, followed by Portland, Oregon-based singer\/songwriter M.Ward before co-headliner Blues Traveler took to the stage, featuring infamous harmonica virtuoso John Popper on lead vocals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Blues-Traveler_011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11972\" alt=\"Blues Traveler_01\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Blues-Traveler_011-e1410439371951.jpg\" width=\"660\" height=\"441\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is one of those legendary touring bands that are so prolific, having performed more than 2000 live shows over their 27+ year history, it\u2019s hard to believe they have only nine studio albums to their credit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Blues-Traveler_031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11974\" alt=\"Blues Traveler_03\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Blues-Traveler_031-e1410439855430.jpg\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the rain that gradually joined them on stage, it was clear from the start that it would take more than a little weather to slow them down, and they certainly did not disappoint, performing a selection of hits past and present before making way for indie rock trio Foster The People on the main stage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Foster-The-People_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11967\" alt=\"Foster The People_1\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2014\/09\/Foster-The-People_1-e1410440151932.jpg\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This Los Angeles band lead by multi-instrumentalist singer \/ songwriter Mark Foster, are famous for their melodic atmospheric dance-oriented pop sound and dynamic live shows, that seemed well-suited to the dramatic backdrop of the evening&#8217;s weather in the park.
