Here&#8217;s the basic description from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oil_sands\">Wikipedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, here&#8217;s a link to a description of tar sands oil and its extraction from the Bureau of Land Management&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/ostseis.anl.gov\/guide\/tarsands\/index.cfm\">EIS <\/a>site.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altprofits.com\/ref\/se\/nre\/ts\/ts.html\">link <\/a>to the Altprofits (a commercial entity encouraging alternative and non-traditional energy development projects) website piece on tar sands oil.<\/p>\n<p>And, here&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/bb\/environment\/july-dec09\/oil_11-16.html\">transcript<\/a> from a PBS NewsHour story on tar sands oil development.<\/p>\n<p>Some people who live in the NCPR coverage area are participating this week in demonstrations against the proposed tapping and piping of oil from the Canadian fields.
