This city knows how to make bluegrass fans feel at home!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Raleigh Convention Center is my home this week.\u00a0 This is the biggest week of the year for bluegrass players and their fans.\u00a0 The IBMA (which &#8211; this week &#8211; stands for &#8216;I&#8217;ve been mostly awake&#8217;) has kept the hotel lobbies, elevators and hallways full of bluegrass music.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My hotel room is on a jamming floor this year.\u00a0\u00a0For\u00a0you un-jammers, this\u00a0means\u00a0playing bluegrass music with strangers and acquaintances at any hour, day or night (but mostly night).\u00a0\u00a0When I checked in I had to sign a consent form agreeing that\u00a0I would <em>NOT<\/em> jam between the hours of <em>5 am and 8 am<\/em>.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right.\u00a0<em> Three bluegrass-free hours<\/em>\u00a0a day!\u00a0 The rest of the time there are no rules.\u00a0 I think this is where all those banjo jokes originate!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m here to attend seminars on all things bluegrass &#8211; and more.\u00a0 Copyright laws; \u00a0conducting better interviews; how to be an effective emcee,\u00a0to name a few.\u00a0 \u00a0For performers, there are classes on songwriting, getting more gigs, staying healthy while touring for weeks, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit hall opens tomorrow, where music makers and instrument makers come together to showcase their talents.\u00a0 This is a place where you can buy a $45 guitar pick, and pair it up with a $20,000 guitar.\u00a0 It&#8217;s spectacular!\u00a0 Needless to say, I&#8217;ll be a spectator.\u00a0\u00a0Check back here\u00a0for photos very soon.<\/p>\n<p>Last night I attended a DJ and promoter appreciation dinner and concert a few miles away in Garner, NC, hosted by Lorraine Jordan (who fronts the band Carolina Road).\u00a0Turns out, she has her own coffeehouse!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15296\" style=\"width: 913px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2015\/09\/Lorraines-inside.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15296\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15296\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2015\/09\/Lorraines-inside.jpg\" alt=\" This is Lorraine's Coffee House - with a nice stage area and great sound system. North Carolina BBQ is not sweet &#8211; it&#8217;s very tangy, with plenty of vinegar on it, and lots of cole slaw.
