For years, a popular\u00a0 notion has held that the middle class is shrinking and the extreme ends of the economic scale are growing. In today&#8217;s <em>NY Times<\/em>, an interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2011\/11\/16\/us\/shrinking-middle-as-income-inequality-rises.html?nl=todaysheadlines&amp;emc=tha23\">graphic<\/a> and related article demonstrating the truth of that popular notion: the middle class <em>is<\/em> shrinking.<\/p>\n<p>What do we know about changes in the North Country? Can you point us to comparable demographic information for the counties north of Albany? Or for northwestern Vermont?
