In her retirement, she has found a new way to help young people through scholarships and enrichment projects. Some of you may know about <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/2011\/05\/26\/saving-the-world\/\">Pierre<\/a> Nzuah who, since early summer,\u00a0 has spent time on the small farm my husband Bill Knoble and I own&#8230;when he&#8217;s not at school (SUNY Canton).<\/p>\n<p>Annette Plante played a big role in helping Pierre continue his studies at Canton College, as did David Wells, who is Dean of Engineering and Technology. Yesterday, we visited Annette so that Pierre could report on his fall semester. I consider myself Pierre&#8217;s surrogate mom while he&#8217;s in the U.S., so I am allowed to boast: 4.0 average, 7 courses (mostly in math, science and technology).<\/p>\n<p>A quiet story that doesn&#8217;t make headlines, but does make a difference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Annette Plante taught French at SUNY Potsdam for many years.
