myopic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From a morning walk in my tiny corner of the north country, signs of the new season&#8211;spring&#8211;just before Barb talked about summer-like too&#8211;including snipe calls, which makes me think of the late John Green, a SLU biology professor who frequently brought students out my way to catch the swooping sound of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/wilsons_snipe\/sounds\"> snipe<\/a> and the howling coyote at\u00a0 dusk.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2095\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption shadberry, things-I&#39;ve-never-figured-out-the-name-of...getting their spring look on.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_2096\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.fed.us\/wildflowers\/plant-of-the-week\/dicentra_cucullaria.shtml\">Dutchmen&#8217;s Breeches<\/a> (which in my neighborhood are called &#8220;Britches&#8221;) at this time of year,<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2097\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2097\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2097  \" title=\"spring2012-022B\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-022B-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-022B-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-022B.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dutchmen&#39;s Britches, often grow on rocky, shaded hillsides.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>but I was really surprised to see the <a href=\"trilllium\">trilliums<\/a> budding out&#8230;I&#8217;d say that&#8217;s about two to three weeks ahead of normal flowering, which I associate with Mother&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2098\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2098\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-018B-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-018B.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2098\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Budding and about-to-flower trilliums...way earlier than usual.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Back at the farm, the sheep are definitively in spring mode, after their visit to the barber a week ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2099\" title=\"spring2012-014B\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2012\/04\/spring2012-014B-300x141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" 796w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>But all they&#8217;re thinking about right now, as they head out onto the winter pasture, is green grass&#8211;which the hens have already found in the spring pasture. For real. Need more proof?
