Members of the group will sleep in the box tonight to raise awareness about homelessness. There&#8217;s also an information table set up in the Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>From the message sent to me:<\/p>\n<h3>World Habitat Day is a\u00a0day for\u00a0grassroots action throughout the world, starting in your community<strong>:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To call attention to the need for better shelter around the world.<\/li>\n<li>To let it be known that affordable, adequate housing should be a priority everywhere.<\/li>\n<li>To change the systems, policies and attitudes that lead to poverty housing, and involve partners in solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme, <em>Many Homes, One Community,<\/em> will call attention to the pivotal role of housing in a neighborhood\u2019s progression.\u00a0 Habitat for Humanity supporters around the globe will participate in special activities that highlight the need for safe, decent and affordable shelter.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"480\" height=\"270\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/w0iG1vz7hho?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"480\" height=\"270\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/w0iG1vz7hho?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>In northern New York and Vermont, homelessness or near-homelessness is almost invisible to most of us. When I travel to large cities, it&#8217;s clear that there are people without proper housing&#8211;people sleep on park benches or in doorways.
