We may be decades past the days when families huddled closely around the parlor radio to hear the latest episode of “Fibber McGee and Molly” or a weekly address from the President, but somehow North Country Public Radio–on the air and online–has created a\u00a0 gathering place for people who live in the Adirondack North Country and its environs.<\/p>\n

The explosion in communications tools sometimes creates greater distances between people–e.g.,\u00a0 a quick text message in lieu of a phone call or, heavens!, an actual visit to a friend. But when the tools are used well, there is an opportunity to overcome barriers between people.<\/p>\n

When we’re doing our best work at NCPR we find ways to make all these fancy tools work in more than one direction: we draw on the talent and imagination of people across the region, we respond and interact. We’re all transformed.<\/p>\n

By now, you know that we made our fundraising goal for the fall. It’s hard to say thank you enough times. “Thank you”\u00a0 feels a bit inadequate because NCPR exists, thrives, grows and shines\u00a0 only when you are there, huddled with us around the radio. In other words, thank yourselves for making a gathering place for the community we share.<\/p>\n
