It contained a few random items&#8211;like a pipe (the type one smokes with) and plastic bags, plus lots of college memorabilia&#8211;from the year the capsule was buried, 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, maybe I&#8217;m getting REALLY old, but to me, a time capsule has to molder for at least 50 years. Unidentifiable objects should abound. You know, a hundred years from now, who is going to know what an iPod is?<\/p>\n<p>So I started to think about what we should put in a time capsule to be buried for at least a 100 years. I started a list, with help from some of my colleagues, and invite you to add to it.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Ellen: an AM\/FM radio<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Dale: all my poetry, of course<\/p>\n<p>3. Radio Bob: an iPad<\/p>\n<p>4. Nora: an iPhone<\/p>\n<p>5. Sandy: a Twinkie<\/p>\n<p>6. David: a guayabera (trans: Cuban dress shirt)<\/p>\n<p>7. Jon: documents establishing the world wide web as open to all users<\/p>\n<p>8. Martha: all five pairs of glasses I need to get through each day (including bi-focals, transitions, computer bi-focals, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>9. Shelly: my kids&#8217; artwork, including drawings of a rabbit and a house with my son&#8217;s girlfriend<\/p>\n<p>10. Julie: &#8220;The Girls&#8217; Book of Flower Fairies&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>11. Todd: a Big Mac<\/p>\n<p>12. Tasha: my red VW bug<\/p>\n<p><strong>C&#8217;mon, folks, we&#8217;ve got plenty of room.
