I&#8217;m having fun today&#8230;. 58 miles with a tailwind, but I did climb 1,500 feet in 4 miles at the end of the day&#8230;. an hour and a half in the lowest (of the 27) gears I have.\u00a0 Grind baby, grind!\u00a0 And I feel great, biking is wonderful.<\/p>\n<p>However, things didn&#8217;t start too well&#8230;. I had a flat rear tire just 10 miles from Clifton Park.\u00a0 This happens when you ride your bike on the shoulder, where all kinds of wiers stuff lurks.\u00a0 Lots of broken bungee cords, and pieces of steel belted radials!\u00a0 (I blame the latter)\u00a0 Fortunately, I was carrying two spare tubes.\u00a0 I installed the new tube, but didn&#8217;t correctly seat the tire&#8217;s bead&#8230;. pumped er&#8217; up, the tire parted from the rim, and the tube exploded.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a shot of the parts of a tube you&#8217;re NEVER supposed to see!<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/tube2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-386\" title=\"tube\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/tube2-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/tube2-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/tube2-767x1024.jpg 767w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/tube2.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, then I used the &#8220;other&#8221; spare tube I had, but, although it had no patches in it, it also had a hole!\u00a0 I patched it and now all is well.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, after that long climb, I&#8217;m back in the same place as last year&#8230; the Whitcomb Summit Motel (and Tavern)\u00a0 The views are incredible from up here&#8230;. you feel like you&#8217;re king of the world (or at least on top of it!)\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a shot of the road outside the door.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/summit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-387\" title=\"summit\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/summit-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/summit-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/allin\/files\/2010\/06\/summit.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is kind of an isolated place, but this year the restaurant (and bar) are open.\u00a0 The\u00a0 choice was Spaghetti&#8230; but that is the perfect diet for a biker!
