And the worst roads. <\/p>\n<p>There is a likely corollary, because most states use at least part of the gas tax on pavement. <\/p>\n<p>Prices rise as I approach Kansas City.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever have the chance in KC, get a meal at Eden Alley. The sweet potato burrito is a sublime work of genius &#8211; and the best cure for road food since Katzinger&#8217;s Deli in Columbus.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever plan to motor west, get hip to this timely tip: Drive across Kansas at night. (Nebraska, too, for that matter.) During the day, it&#8217;s hard to convince yourself that you&#8217;re actually moving. The scenery doesn&#8217;t really change and you can start to feel like a hamster on a wheel.<\/p>\n<p>Unless, of course, you take Route 66.
