New record brook trout caught in Adirondacks

State officials say a Forestport man named Dan Germain has set a new official record for landing a whopper brook trout in New York waters.

Germain was fishing June 15th in South Lake in Herkimer County in the southwest Adirondacks when he took the fish on a Lake Clear Wabbler and a worm.

The trout measured 22 inches and weighed five pounds, 8 ounces, beating the 2009 record by 3.5 ounces.  That’s quite a brookie.

I’ve trolled a gold/silver Lake Clear Wobbler and worm for years and many miles but have only caught one fish with it. Maybe I need a larger assortment of colors and sizes. Off to the tackle store…………

Myown, people rig then in different ways. Same with the Hinckley. Be interesting to see how his was rigged.

Bret, I run the worm with a single hook on a 4lb leader 8-12″ back. The guy who had the recent record caught his brookie trolling a Rapala with a drop weight. Yes, it would be interesting to hear more info on this one.
