{"id":1036,"date":"2009-09-06T08:52:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-06T12:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/06\/scrutiny-for-scozzafava-praise-for-hoffman\/"},"modified":"2009-09-06T08:52:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-06T12:52:00","slug":"scrutiny-for-scozzafava-praise-for-hoffman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/06\/scrutiny-for-scozzafava-praise-for-hoffman\/","title":{"rendered":"Scrutiny for Scozzafava, praise for Hoffman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the perceived front-runner the 23rd special election, Republican Dede Scozzafava is getting a lot of under-the-microscope-treatment.<\/p>\n<p>As the outsider-underdog, Conservative Doug Hoffman is avoiding much of that scrutiny, while winning praise from right-of-center media.<\/p>\n<p>Scozzafava&#8217;s latest challenge is a review of the Scozzafava family&#8217;s latest Securities and Exchange Commission filing, dated May 2oth, in PolitickerNY.com.<\/p>\n<p>Writer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politickerny.com\/5160\/scozzafavas-exchanged-stock-company-tanked\">Jimmy Vielkind suggests<\/a> that Scozzafava maneuvered to put herself in a better position than other stockholders, should her family business fail.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seawayvalleycapitalcorp.com\/about-us\">a holding company run by her brother<\/a> lost millions, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politickerny.com\/tags\/dede-scozzafava\">Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava<\/a> traded her stock for a debt obligation that will give her preference if the troubled corporation were to file for bankruptcy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If this meme sticks &#8212; that Scozzafava used her insider status to gain an advantage over normal stockholders &#8212; it could mean real trouble.<\/p>\n<p>In the post Wall Street bailout era, voters have little patience for shades-of-gray cleverness.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Doug Hoffman won a glowing treatment last week in the conservative (and prominent) Weekly Standard.<\/p>\n<p>Former Corporation for Public Broadcasting chairman K<a href=\"http:\/\/weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/016\/915oydzb.asp\">en Tomlinson penned an essay<\/a> about Hoffman, writing, &#8220;when he tells you his life&#8217;s story, it is easy to see why those who know him are so very much for him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Of Scozzafava, on the other hand, Tomlinson wrote,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She is pro-card check, pro-abortion, and twice voted in the assembly to legalize gay marriage.
