{"id":1043,"date":"2009-09-09T11:47:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-09T15:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/09\/first-poll-shows-scozzafava-leads-close-house-special-election\/"},"modified":"2009-09-09T11:47:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-09T15:47:00","slug":"first-poll-shows-scozzafava-leads-close-house-special-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/09\/first-poll-shows-scozzafava-leads-close-house-special-election\/","title":{"rendered":"First poll shows Scozzafava leads close House special election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dede Scozzafava leads the congressional race by 10 points, according to a new poll released today by the Hoffman campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican is receiving 30% of the vote, including those who are leaning toward voting for her.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Owens, the Democrat, is in second place with 20%.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Hoffman, the Conservative from Lake Placid, follows with 19%.<\/p>\n<p>The Hoffman campaign released the numbers today, arguing that they show a neck-to-neck race. <\/p>\n<p>They argue that Scozzafava, a name-brand Republican in much of the 23rd district, is underperforming.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that nearly a third of the likely voters are undecided suggests real volatility here.<\/p>\n<p>In a conference call today, pollster John McLaughlin (who conducted the poll on behalf of Hoffman) indicated that social issues &#8212; abortion, primarily &#8212; could be a significant factor int he race.<\/p>\n<p>This poll assumes a vote on November 3rd.
