{"id":1051,"date":"2009-09-13T19:59:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-13T23:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/13\/mchugh-confirmation-as-army-secretary-this-week\/"},"modified":"2009-09-13T19:59:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-13T23:59:00","slug":"mchugh-confirmation-as-army-secretary-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/09\/13\/mchugh-confirmation-as-army-secretary-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"McHugh confirmation as Army Secretary this week?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2009\/09\/military_mchugh_senate_091109w\/\">The Army Times<\/a> is reporting that high-level talks between two Republican Senators and the Obama administration could lead to the confirmation of John McHugh as Secretary of the Army this week.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas&#8217; conservative delegation has used the confirmation process as leverage to win concessions from President Obama on the treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Carl Levin (D-Michigan) told the Army Times that the &#8220;blockages could be removed&#8221; in time for approval this week.  <\/p>\n<p>Levin chairs the Senate Armed Services committee.<\/p>\n<p>McHugh, himself a Republican, was appointed by the Obama administration in the spring.
