Photo: Chris Knight, courtesy <em>Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>New York&#8217;s education commissioner John King was supposed to hold town hall meetings across the state to discuss the new Common Core curriculum that the state rolled out last year.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings were sponsored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyspta.org\/\">New York State PTA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But after a meeting in Poughkeepsie got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poughkeepsiejournal.com\/article\/20131013\/NEWS01\/310130023\/Common-Core-meetings-canceled\">pretty rowdy<\/a>, Commissioner King has cancelled the remaining 4 meetings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">He said in a statement that the PTA-sponsored meetings had been &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/polhudson.lohudblogs.com\/2013\/10\/14\/ed-commissioner-now-canceled-forums-were-co-opted-by-special-interests\/\">co-opted by special interests<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lana Ajemian, president of the New York State PTA, \u00a0wrote about the divisive meeting on the organization&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/nysptapresident.blogspot.com\/\">blog<\/a>, saying that the atmosphere was &#8220;not productive to continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">You can see a video of testimony at the Poughkeepsie meeting <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 13px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P_Eiz406VAs\">here<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">\u00a0The crowd starts jeering when the commissioner begins to address the crowd during the public comment period.
