(Photo: NYS)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.timesunion.com\/capitol\/archives\/198035\/sold-a-336-bed-prison-in-the-adirondacks\/\">Albany Times Union is reporting today<\/a> that state officials believe they have a buyer for the former Camp Gabriels correctional facility north of Saranac Lake.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[NY] offficials earlier on Monday opened the seven bids they got and topping the list was Mohammed Ibrahim from Brooklyn,&#8221; the Times-Union reported, &#8220;whose $210,777 bid was substantially more than the second-highest offer of $166,000.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the newspaper, there&#8217;s no word yet on what Ibrahim plans to do with the facility, which was originally valued by New York state at roughly $1,000,000.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/properties.esd.ny.gov\/campGabriels.html\">9o-acre campus was originally developed in the late 1800s as a tuberculosis sanatorium<\/a>, and was later converted into a minimum security work-camp style prison in the mid-1980s.<\/p>\n<p>This sale comes in the wake of the sale of another North Country prison back in July &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2013\/07\/11\/former-lyon-mountain-prison-sells-for-140000\/\">Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility went to a Canadian buyer for roughly $140,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two more North Country prisons, near Glens Falls and in Chateaugay, are slated to close in 2014 as state inmate populations continue to decline.\u00a0 Local officials have promised to try to block those closures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albany Times Union is reporting today that state officials believe they have a buyer [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[7031,9975,9024],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12523"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12523"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12523\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":12525,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12523\/revisions\/12525"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12523"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12523"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12523"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
