Photo: John Stanford<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Social and conventional media reports from a broad area suggest something &#8211; perhaps a meteorite? &#8211; made itself known just before 8 pm Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Judging from initial feedback, this may have been most noticeable in the Montreal area. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montrealgazette.com\/technology\/What+that+mysterious+boom+Speculation+possible+meteorite+strike\/9218381\/story.html\">&#8220;What was that mysterious boom?&#8221;<\/a> asked the Montreal Gazette:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although there is no official conformation of a meteorite, a spokesman for the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada says all signs point to a meteor event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard of reports south of Ottawa, through Cornwall, the Montreal area, folks down in northern New York state as well, said Andrew Fazekas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really just observations from regular everyday folks that they heard a sonic boom that was preceded by a blue flash of light high in the sky that lasted maybe one or two seconds.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>TV station WPTZ reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wptz.com\/news\/vermont-new-york\/plattsburgh\/mysterious-boom-rocks-north-country\/-\/9277622\/23177178\/-\/5ee7l3\/-\/index.html\">fielding calls from viewers in their\u00a0Plattsburgh\/Burlington<\/a> area wondering what they&#8217;d heard too. The comment field for that report says most thought it was thunder.<\/p>\n<p>Social media comments from Montreal leaned more decidedly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23Meteor&amp;src=hash\">in favor of meteorite<\/a>. Tweets <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/meteor-may-have-caused-loud-boom-in-quebec-ontario-1.2441705\">quoted by CBC<\/a> include this <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PaulTherrien\/status\/405558747935686656\">news flash from Paul Therrien<\/a>: &#8220;Baby Superman landed in the West Island. We must find him!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Did you notice anything odd in the sky last night?
