{"id":1370,"date":"2009-12-02T21:02:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T01:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/02\/warren-countys-bond-rating-slips\/"},"modified":"2009-12-02T21:02:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-03T01:02:00","slug":"warren-countys-bond-rating-slips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/02\/warren-countys-bond-rating-slips\/","title":{"rendered":"Warren County&#8217;s bond rating slips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local government is struggling; and the legislature&#8217;s plan to curtail local government assistance won&#8217;t help.<\/p>\n<p>The point is driven home by today&#8217;s news, <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_c3127f0c-dfa2-11de-84d8-001cc4c03286.html\">reported in the Glens Falls Post Star<\/a>, that Warren County&#8217;s bond rating has been lowered.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the rating was AAA, the highest possible.  It slipped to A2 and then to A3.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Post Star, Warren County was dinged because of a lack of fund balance. <\/p>\n<p>As the newspaper reported, the county passed a 1% sales tax increase, in part to avert an even greater reduction in the rating.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a PR concern here.  And in real world terms, a government&#8217;s bond rating can affect its ability to borrow money on reasonable terms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local government is struggling; and the legislature&#8217;s plan to curtail local government assistance won&#8217;t help.
