{"id":1374,"date":"2009-12-03T16:03:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T20:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/03\/tim-burke-grabs-silver-at-world-cup-biathlon-in-sweden\/"},"modified":"2009-12-03T16:03:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-03T20:03:00","slug":"tim-burke-grabs-silver-at-world-cup-biathlon-in-sweden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/03\/tim-burke-grabs-silver-at-world-cup-biathlon-in-sweden\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Burke grabs silver at World Cup biathlon in Sweden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re gearing up our winter sports coverage, with the Vancouver Winter Olympics just a few months away.<\/p>\n<p>No fewer than eight Adirondack-North Country athletes are expected to compete in Vancouver this year.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll have a big profile of Billy Demong from Vermontville next week, one of the worlds premier Nordic combined racers (ski jumping and x-country ski racing).<\/p>\n<p>And more good news today:  Tim Burke from Paul Smiths snagged a silver at World Cup competitions in Oestersund, Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>This from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5hqMpwv8V9W5OXMswY2B8ouW2cLnQD9CC187G2\">AP<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tim Burke has tied for the best finish ever for a U.S. biathlete in a World Cup event by finishing second to Norway&#8217;s Emil Hegle Svendsen in the men&#8217;s season-opening race.<\/p>\n<p>Hegle Svendsen and Burke each missed one target in the 20-kilometer race, but the Norwegian outskied the American to secure his 12th individual World Cup win.<\/p>\n<p>Burke&#8217;s chance for victory disappeared when he missed a shot at the final shooting station.
