{"id":1401,"date":"2009-12-12T16:32:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-12T20:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/12\/breaking-crown-point-bridge-to-be-replaced-by-summer-2011\/"},"modified":"2009-12-12T16:32:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-12T20:32:00","slug":"breaking-crown-point-bridge-to-be-replaced-by-summer-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/12\/breaking-crown-point-bridge-to-be-replaced-by-summer-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Crown Point bridge to be replaced by Summer 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/northcountrypublicradio.org\/blogs\/ballotbox\/uploaded_images\/tied-arch-749187.png\"><img style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;float: left;cursor: pointer;width: 150px;height: 150px\" src=\"http:\/\/northcountrypublicradio.org\/blogs\/ballotbox\/uploaded_images\/tied-arch-749162.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/northcountrypublicradio.org\/blogs\/ballotbox\/uploaded_images\/cable-bridge-786684.png\"><img style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;float: left;cursor: pointer;width: 150px;height: 150px\" src=\"http:\/\/northcountrypublicradio.org\/blogs\/ballotbox\/uploaded_images\/cable-bridge-786657.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At public meetings today in Ticonderoga, New York state Department of Transportation officials committed to building a new span across Lake Champlain by the summer of 2011.<\/p>\n<p>State Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward (R-Willsboro) who heads the public advisory committee, praised the effort and said the state&#8217;s response to the bridge crisis has been excellent.<\/p>\n<p>Closure of the Crown Point bridge in mid-October stranded hundreds of motorists who live and work on opposite sides of the lake.<\/p>\n<p>Engineers described the new construction schedule as &#8220;aggressive&#8221; and acknowledged that the process would include a radically shortened series of environmental and regulatory reviews.<\/p>\n<p>In order to accommodate the new schedule, designers are attempting to place the new structure within the footprint of the old bridge.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hoped that the strategy will avoid entanglements with historical, cultural or environmental resources in the area.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, state and Federal officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysdot.gov\/lakechamplainbridge\/alternatives\">also unveiled six proposed concepts<\/a> for the new bridge, ranging from spartan concrete structures to graceful cable-supported spans.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysdot.gov\/lakechamplainbridge\/alternatives\">view all six theoretical designs here<\/a>.
