{"id":1417,"date":"2009-12-17T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-17T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/17\/press-republican-ticonderoga-ferry-closed-by-ice-jam\/"},"modified":"2009-12-17T15:15:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-17T19:15:00","slug":"press-republican-ticonderoga-ferry-closed-by-ice-jam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/12\/17\/press-republican-ticonderoga-ferry-closed-by-ice-jam\/","title":{"rendered":"Press-Republican: Ticonderoga ferry closed by ice jam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The transportation crisis in the Champlain valley just got a little worse. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressrepublican.com\/breakingnews\/local_story_351140551.html\">Plattsburgh Press-Republican<\/a> is reporting this afternoon that the car ferry at Ticonderoga has been shut down by ice jams.<\/p>\n<p>With temperatures expected to remain in the single digits through the weekend, it&#8217;s unclear whether the ferry will be able to resume operation this winter.<\/p>\n<p>The Ticonderoga crossing became a staple for many drivers after the Crown Point bridge was closed due to safety concerns in mid-October. <\/p>\n<p>The ferry service has already been extended beyond its usual shut-down date in November.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with the Press-Republican, Moriah town supervisor Tom Scozzafava said the Ticonderoga ferry was &#8220;critical to commuters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Until service is restored, motorists will have to drive north to the ferry crossing at Essex or south to Whitehall, adding more than an hour to their commute.<\/p>\n<p>State Department of Transportation officials are scrambling to open a year-round ferry crossing at Crown Point that would operate until a new bridge is built.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The transportation crisis in the Champlain valley just got a little worse.
