This from the Post-Star editorial this morning:

There are a thousand ways to be ticked off at yesterday’s front page story about 14 sex offenders living at a local motel.

Where do we start?

How about the fact that there are 14 sex offenders living at a local motel? That’s a good one.

How about the fact that the sex offenders staying there say the county Social Services department regularly places families with kids in the motel – the one with the 14 sex offenders living there.

Not mad enough yet?

How about the fact that the motel manager flat-out lied about knowing there were sex offenders living in his motel, as evidenced by the fact that the county sheriff’s department regularly checks in to make sure the sex offenders are still living where they say they are.

NCPR has reported repeatedly on the difficulties that face convicted sex offenders who are trying to find housing and rebuild their lives.

It’s a complicated issue. But surely there are better answers than this, right?

The Post-Star’s editorial demands that local officials provide more information about the decisions that led to this situation.

A probe by the Glens Falls Post-Star discovered something remarkable: Warren County social services officials […]

[1
