Price Chopper put in a bid for some of these stores. But after many negotiations and last-minute offers, a federal judge approved the sale of all 79 Penn Traffic stores in New York, Pennsylvania and New England to Tops Friendly Markets.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, Tops announced it will sell these P&amp;C grocery stores to Price Chopper:<\/p>\n<p>-Canton<br \/>-Potsdam<br \/>-Gouverneur<br \/>-Massena<br \/>-West Carthage<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, Tops President and CEO Frank Curci said these stores:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>were on the outer edge of our geographic footprint and would best be served by another retailer with more familiarity with those markets<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Penn Traffic and Tops are union shops.
