{"id":1737,"date":"2010-03-12T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-12T14:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/03\/12\/even-more-prison-cutbacks-in-north-country\/"},"modified":"2010-03-12T10:10:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-12T14:10:00","slug":"even-more-prison-cutbacks-in-north-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/03\/12\/even-more-prison-cutbacks-in-north-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Even more prison cutbacks in North Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York&#8217;s Department of Correctional Services says even more cuts are coming for North Country prisons.<\/p>\n<p>This time DOCS isn&#8217;t shutting whole facilities, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20100312\/NEWS03\/303129945\">Watertown Daily Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead state officials plan to consolidate dorms within the existing facilities.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Randy Page, the northern region vice president of the New York State Correctional Officers &amp; Police Benevolent Association, said the 10 prisons being consolidated north of the state Thruway, including two units in Franklin County, will be &#8220;a devastating blow for an officer working downstate right now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those are 65, 68 jobs that are no longer available to those people working downstate that are trying to come up,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That won&#8217;t mean those dorms won&#8217;t be filled up eventually.
